V2501A
ATM Router
The
V2501A is a network engine that allows customers to build larger
and more scalable networks that can move high-speed traffic between
Layer 3 and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) interfaces on a single
platform. The ATM series router transports IP packets across ATM connections.
Specially,
the V2502A ATM router offers permanent virtual channels (PVCs) for setting
up ATM connections. The ATM routers can adapt incoming data to 53-byte
ATM cells by means of permanent connections for the transfer of information.
This feature eliminates the need to specify destination paths within
the networks, making the networks easier to grow while increasing their
availability
The ATM
routers support Quality of Serivce (QoS) to accomodate both bursty data
and traffic congestion over the same infrastructure. Another features
in the V2502A router are Operation, Administration, and Maintenance
(OAM) for failure detection along the PVC path. The 2501A ATM router
can be interconnected over an E1 line.
ATM
Data Processing
Support
ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) 5 to map different type of user information
into an ATM format, and vice versa.
Comply with RFC 1483 by offering IP encapsulation over ATM and PPP encapsulation
over AAL 5.
UNI
signaling
Provide
the standard ATM Forum UNI 3.0/3.1 signaling protocol for end-system
interoperability, and future upgradability for UNI 4.0 specification
Support permanent virtual connections (PVCs) and up to maximum of 32
VCs for interconnection between network users.
Quality
of Serivce (QoS) Control
Implement
various congestion control mechanisms including available bit rate (ABR),
constant bit rate (CBR), unspecified bit rate (UBR), and non-real time
variable bit rate (nrt-VBR).
PVC
Management
Support
for the Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) flows to detect
the remaining PVC and allow the PVC to go down if there is a disruption
along its path
Include Interim Local Management Interface (ILMI) used to automatically
discover PVCs on neighboring switches and duplicate those PVC entries
on the ATM links
Easy
IP Configuration
Reduce
the cost of Internet access dynamically allocate local IP addresses
to clients via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.
Network
Address Translation (NAT)
Enable
all internal hosts to share a single registered IP address and enhance
network security by hiding internal addresses from public view.
Internet
Security
Feature
packet filtering and user authentication (PAP/CHAP) to keep traffic
from inappropriately reaching the network.
