CROCUS Nx64K Module
  • Interface modules for the Crocus HDSL and Crocus SDSL modems designed to work at any multiple of 64 kbps
  • Modular plug-in module for maximum flexibility and efficient stock management
  • Full control over G.704 time-slot mapping
  • For desktop and rack-mount equipment
  • Fallback supported in case of line problems (Crocus HDSL)
  • Full configuration through the maintenance or management system

The CROCUS HDSL and CROCUS SDSL modems can be equipped with a wide range of modular exchangeable interfaces, ensuring high-speed interconnection solutions for an extremely wide set of applications. The Nx64k family of interfaces offers to the connected application any speed between 64kbps and the actual line-speed, in multiples of 64 kbps. The interface modules are available conform to recommendations V.36, V.35, RS-530 and X.21, or can be combined with an Ethernet bridge or IP-Routing functionality. At either side of the communication link different types of interfaces may be used.

A typical application is the high bandwidth access to packet based backbone networks (IP, X.25, Frame Relay). The access bandwidth of each user is under total control of the network operator.

Access with configurable bandwidth to a packet switched network

It is also possible to combine a Nx64k type of interface at one side with a G.703 interface (with G.704 framing) at the other side of the link. The Nx64k data stream is mapped into G.704 time slots (fractional E1) and is output on the G.703 interface at the other end of the connection. This time-slot mapping is entirely under operator control, offering the largest possible flexibility for the interconnection to a G.704 based Digital Access Cross Connect System (DACCS) or a SDH backbone.

A typical application is the high bandwidth digital leased line service where the user can ask for a subscription at any multiple of 64 kbps.

The Crocus HDSL offers a 2Mbit service using 2 or 3 line pairs. However, if the modem is equipped with a Nx64k module, it can operate with a reduced number of line pairs, offering a reduced speed at the interface. Automatic speed adaptation as a function of the number of connected pairs is supported. On G.704 framing level, a prioritisation mechanism guarantees the preservation of a predefined set of time-slots upon a line pair fallback operation.

The configuration of the Crocus HDSL or Crocus SDSL includes total control over the Nx64k modules and can also be performed from the central management system. Therefore, the central management can determine and dynamically adapt the access speeds on different points in the managed network.
